What better way to start off a new baseball year than with a blowout win in the hot Florida sun? That’s exactly what a Red Sox ballclub eying their first World Series win since 2018 accomplished. With a final score of 14 to 1, Boston took care of the Minnesota Twins to commence baseball season.
Led by the strong bats of Bobby Dalbec, Elih Marrero and Tyreque Reed, and the strong arms of Michael Feliz, Taylor Cole and Andrew Politi, the Sox combined parts of their great starting core along with some promising prospects to show the entire league why they’re a force to be reckoned with not only in the American League but the entirety of Major League Baseball.
Other than a bases loaded walk which gave Minnesota their lone run of the ballgame, the Red Sox completely neutralized the Twins lineup, holding them to just two hits including a single from Byron Buxton in the first inning. Michael Feliz earned the win to go along with a couple of strikeouts in one inning pitched. On the offensive side of things, Bobby Dalbec started off the action by giving the baseball world a glimpse of his strong power with a two run shot in the bottom of the first. Other notable moments include Jeter Downs stealing home on a miscue by the Minnesota defense, and the onslaught from some of the best the Red Sox’s minor league system has to offer in the bottom of the eight. All in all, it was a really excellent showing from both sides of the ball.
Tomorrow, the Red Sox take on long-time division foes looking for payback after their loss to Boston in the 2021 ALDS. Armed with fan favorite infielders Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers, and a hungry Nathan Eovaldi, the Red Sox look to start off division play strong by earning a win against the Tampa Bay Rays.
